One Fine Horse Sports and English Ver.

Introduction

Hello, my name is Kazuma from One Fine Horse.

I was always a curious and restless child, often getting reprimanded by teachers. I even stopped attending school in high school because I couldn’t see the point.

I started judo in middle school, and to pursue judo, I went to a sports high school, but I suffered a major injury and lost my chance to become a professional athlete.

After two years of rehabilitation, I switched to MMA in college.

I trained with famous athletes at a local gym in Yokohama, but I wasn’t a very good athlete, so I was considered an unknown.

After graduating from college, I chose the path of an educator instead of a fighter.

I have experience as a middle school teacher for 4 years in Yokohama and 2 years in Vancouver.

Recently, my middle school teacher visited Vancouver where I live, and I was inspired by him to create an environment where students studying in Vancouver can use the English they learned in school outside of school.

I was a middle school English teacher, but I hated studying.

I got 80 out of 100 on the English proficiency test and a 2 out of 5 on the evaluation scale.

When I met judo in middle school, I found a place where I could shine, and for the first time, I felt that school was fun.

Of course, there were times when things were unfair, tough, and unpleasant, but I overcame them with the determination to do judo.

My judo club advisor taught me many things through judo and helped me grow as a person.

In college, I happened to sit next to an exchange student who shared my passion for martial arts, and we became good friends by talking about our hobbies.

I believe that all sports, including martial arts, are a form of communication that transcends language.

Also, I naturally communicated in English through sports.

It was through this experience that I became able to communicate in English.

I am currently an active MMA fighter in Vancouver.

Here, I will provide students studying abroad in Vancouver with the opportunity to output the English they have learned in an environment where they can interact with people living in Vancouver through common sports and hobbies.

In addition, I would also like to cooperate in the development of local sports teams and contribute to the revitalization of Vancouver.

One Fine Horse

Mission

  • To provide an environment where students studying abroad or attending college can use the English they have learned outside of school and nurture their English skills by interacting with people living in Vancouver through common sports and hobbies.
  • To promote the formation of a more global society by having students join sports teams and communities to which people living in Vancouver belong, encounter different cultures and come into contact with new ideas and values.
  • To connect students to communities in various fields, not just sports, such as music and theater.

Reason for Establishment

  • It is conceivable that it is difficult to use the English learned in class because there are limited opportunities to use English outside of school. (The homestay family may speak a language other than English, such as Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, or Tagalog.)
  • Many students attending language schools may not have the financial means to work, so they may go home and spend their time at home after class.
  • To provide opportunities for students to naturally need to communicate in English outside of class hours, mainly after school and on weekends and holidays.

Services

  1. We will introduce the most suitable sports teams and communities in Vancouver to each student through counseling.
  2. We will disseminate various information through an online community (Facebook private group) and you can also interact with other members.
  3. We will hold workshops regularly.
  4. Please feel free to contact us anytime if you have any questions about sports or communities.
  5. We will offer a free 30-minute trial counseling session for the first time.
