今日は、【留学先生日記】程度結果を表すso that構文 such that構文 Expressing cause and effect with so / such….thatを説明します。今日紹介するものは、高校生で習うso that構文 such that構文を説明します。so that構文”〜するために、〜するように”ではなく、程度の結果を表すso that構文 such that構文はあまり聞かないと思います。becauseを使わないくても理由を説明できるので、わかると使える構文です。ポンコツ不登校が何となく説明していくので最後まで読んでいただけると嬉しいです。
私は、日本語が母国語で現在カナダのバンクーバーで語学留学をしています。大学生の頃、ブルガリアに2ヶ月間いたので、少しだけブルガリア語ができます。最近、身近な人の母国語がタガログ語、マンダリン、ポルトガル語だったりするのでブルガリア語のように緩く勉強はじめました。
そんな私が異なる言語を使う際に”今話している単語の品詞は名詞でその後に動詞を過去形にして”とか考えたことがありません。だから私は単語、表現、文法をイメージで覚えます。みなさん母国語ってそうやって習得しています。新しい言語を勉強して習得するにあたって、単語や文章のイメージができることがとても大切です。かんたんに説明をすると、”英語を英語で学び、英語で理解すること”です。

以上が英語での説明です。ポイントは、形容詞＋名詞のときだけsuch thatの組み合わせになります。

程度結果を表すso that構文 such that構文

(形容詞) I was so scared that I ran from the thunder.
(副詞) He drove so carefully that we arrived safely.
(形容詞+名詞) she was such a brave firefighter that she won an award.

(語順)主語+動詞+so/such(形容詞/副詞/形容詞+名詞)+that+原因

語順に関しては全く難しくありませんが、soの後にあるものが形容詞、副詞、形容詞+名詞なのかを見分ける必要があります。その後にthat以下に原因がきます。

2文を1文にしているものなので、主語と動詞が２つあるので、複雑だと感じると思いますが、that以前と以後でイメージができるとかんたんに理解できます。

Combine the sentences to make one sentence. Use so or such + that.
